Al KooperGood Ole Rock 'N Roll
Technical StuffHammond B-3 and electronic keyboards for Al Kooper. He brought a guitarist, drummer, bass player, percussionist and his own house engineer. It took several hours to get the equipment on stage and in place. Al's engineer checked the final layout, and with his help, everything was hooked up and ready to go in plenty of time. Al (Mr. Kooper) showed up before the rest of the band, check to make sure everything was OK, and just hung out for a while so we could finish setting up. He offered a couple of suggestions, and we moved the mikes on the Leslie cabinets around to the open side, to get the brighter sound that he likes. The band assembled on stage and they did a few numbers together. We made some minor adjustments to monitor levels, then called sound check complete. All-in-all, not too bad. ReviewTo say that I was looking forward to working with Al Kooper would be an understatement. I have revered this man's talent for many years. He is a brilliant composer and musician, and I even like his singing voice. His accomplishments in the music industry as an artist, producer, performer, and author (see below) are remarkable. His performance that night wasn't in any way a let-down. He and the band performed a lot of new stuff, and some old stuff. I'll see if I
can find a set list to publish here. He added a new twist to some of his classics,
and his newer material has the same unique qualities that make Al Kooper who he is today.
I can't say enough good things about the show he put on. Thuderous applause
graced the end of each number. Al was kind enough to come out and sign autographs
for quite a while after the show. He even signed my copy of his book, "Backstage Passes
and Backstabbing Bastards: Memoirs of a Rock 'N' Roll Survivor" If you ever get a chance to see him live, I guarantee you won't be disappointed. Also, if you don't already own these CDs, I would strongly suggest that you check them out. No self-respecting Al Kooper fan should be without them.
